I've been active since 2000. Now, we all know that the SCRA doesn't apply to debt incurred while you are on active duty. Well, I screwed up about 2 years ago and let my Chase CC get charged off. I dodged it for a while, and finally decided the right thing to do was to call them and settle. I settled my account for around 45% of the original balance of $4200. Well, after reading CB for a while, I decided to send Chase a GW to see if they would do anything for me. Keep in mind, this account was settled for less than the full balance, reporting $0 on all 3 CRA's. Well, they wrote me back, and said that because I am in the service, they are going to extend to me the SCRA also. They said that all lates, returned item fees, overage fees would be reversed if I sent them proof of my military service. So I faxed them all of my orders since 2000 and my enlistment, reenlistment papers. I called them today, and they said that my account is no longer charged off, has a balance of $1900, and an available credit of $1600. All fees were credited back to me. Basically, they took my charged off account, and made it look like it never happened. If any service members are in the same situation with Chase or any other creditors, you might want to take this approach.
