Hi
I used Dell Pref Credit 18 months ago. My credit limit was 1500 all of which Iused for new laptop. 18months later and the balance is 1945.00. I was laid off in Jan and I just can't make the payments on time, and even when I do they don't reduce the principle .

Credit Counseling that I use says the DPH doesn't offer management plans. I applied the couple hundred I got from Dell PH class action.
I'm drowning and the balance is snowballing.

Any suggesstions?

How about you sell the laptop and use the money towards the Dell account?

Just a thought...

Sorry you lost your job.

I don't think selling the notebook would do much to solve the overall problem, although I can see why that would be a first thought. Assuming you've contacted them and they've refused to help in any way, I would stop making any payments. As long as you make an occasional payment, they probably aren't going to budge. After 90 days of no payments at all, try again to negotiate.

I did the same thing. xmas 2007, i bought 2 laptops with a credit limit of 1500.00 and today i still owe 1450.oo. Major rip off card. My balance this month is more than it was last month and that was an on time payment. dont make much since to me. they will be the next cc i pay off thats for sure.

I just have to mention that the people that call me on the Dell Preferred account are the worst to deal with. They call me at work after I have already made a payment and even after I tell them it was paid insist that I call them back with a confirmation number. Why should I have to do that? When I tell them that Im not doing that.......... I am threatened that the phone calls will continue.
Since by now they have only pissed me off I let them know they will get the same response from me. At this point with their attitude I will never go out of my way to get them any type of confirmation number. They are the only ones who do this.

Dell does not offer any type of debt management plan, so do whatever you can to pay them current and then work on that balance. If you still have cable, cancel cable for a month and apply those funds to Dell. Do whatever you can to bring them current.

You should be able to include them in your credit counseling plan, YOU just have to make sure the payment meets their required amount and due date. If you have another creditor you pay off first, request those funds apply next to the Dell account. There's no fast way out of that account that does not include a large lump sum payment. You just have to get them current, then pay every dime you can towards that balance.

Dell actually does their own in house debt management on their accounts. I was on it for a short period of time and still didn't make any difference.
