Has anybody ever heard of this finance company? DW may get a used car loan with them. Just checking to see if they are reputable.

On behalf of CreditBoards Admin, MarvBear would like to extend a sincere and warm welcome to the Automotive Forum.

We have an Automotive FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section that should prove to be very helpful in your automotive knowledge quest.

In the Reading and Resource Section of this forum, which is a read only forum, you can look up information regarding Sales Tax by State, Lemon Laws by State, along with a number of industry specific topics very relevant from the dealership's perspective.

In the main section of this forum, there are two pinned topics both of which are read only topics. The first concerns Bank and Credit Union rates and tiers. You might find this useful in predicting an interest rate on your next vehicle purchase. The second is a general purpose credit application that you can use to get an idea if you might qualify for an automotive product loan based on an insider's perspective of the information you provide.

You, as a consumer, have a unique advantage to "pick my brain"as I have been in the Automotive Industry since 1972. I will endeavor my utmost to give you up to the minute information and explain any insider workings you may question.

Due to time constraints on my part, I may not always be available to answer your question right away. Don't be discouraged, this is a very busy board. If some extended time goes by without a reply, feel free to reply to your own post by typing the word *bump*. This will *bump* your post back up to the top of the forum where it is more easily seen.

We make every effort to maintain a warm and friendly, and particularly non-judgmental attitude here on CreditBoards. If you find someone is discourteous to you, use the REPORT button located at the bottom of every post-that will ensure that either I or another moderator or Admin looks at the post and decides if it is against our TOS.

Off-topic posts should go in the General Forum. And if you are a credit newbie, take a glance at our Newbies Section.

I have them, no problems in the year I have had it. I heard they wont work with people, so dont be late.

I would also say, not use there online pay service, unless you want to pay $5 bucks to do it. I just use billpay through National City takes two days to get there and post!

I have them as well. I have automatic bill pay which they let me set up on the day that I wanted, but no later than the 15th. Worked out fine. They were very nice on the phone.

We just traded in a vehicle financed through them. The only issue I ever had was the high interest but that was our own fault for the crappy credit we had at the time. We always paid a month ahead, online. I have heard of others with issues but my thinking is if you pay faithfully on time and keep good records you will avoid any problems.

When I paid online I meant through USAA billpay. No, don't pay their WU fees!

When I first got the loan, I could pay online for free, but they just changed it a few months back

Yep, when that change happened is when I switched the way we paid too.

If you post this on the regular Credit Forum, people will say nasty things about them. I so far have nice things to say. I have crappy credit and they were my only financing option. A few months later, they repo'd the car because I failed to pay for 3 months in a row. HOWEVER, they were extremely nice in dealing with me, and about 1.5 weeks later, I got the car back by paying up and current. Even though it was a bad situation, at least they worked with me so I could keep my car.

The DW fin. through them. She has not had any problems so far (1yr) but always pays on time.

I have used them for 2 years. They are ok. But then again I never pay late. same complaint about the WU fee to make a payment. What sort of crap is that.

" We value you as a customer and thank you for your payment, but please be a good customer and pay a WU fee" smile.gif

I used them when I was rebuilding. No problems whatsoever. Even when I was a bit late on my payment, one of their reps called me and said it wasnt a big deal to be a few days past the due date, but to please pay by ' x date' or it would put an 'over 30' on my credit report. I thought it was nice that they werent jerks and actually told me how long I had before it would adversely affected me....they also didnt call me 20 times a day like I have heard that other companies have been known to do.

I had a 30 day late due to mailing there payment to another creditor and nothing works with these people ITS, Nutcase letters, Goodwill letters etc., plus high interest rates; if you don't need to, use another financing company that doesn't prey on the credit needy. mad.gif

Does anyone know if they charge to make a payment over the phone?

Does anyone know if they are BK friendly?

MarvBear

My wife had them on her car. After having the car for three years, she fell behind on the payments. She kept in touch with them pretty well, and had made a payment arrangement, but apparently the first date a payment was promised fell beyond 60 days. So she was thinking she was fine as long as she made that payment on time, until I woke up at 7am one morning to see a rollback in the driveway. I called Americredit, to take care of it (Was going to pay by check over the phone out of our mortgage account) and they asked if the car was on the truck. I told them it wasn't, that the guy had a chain hooked to the car though, and the woman on the phone told me I had to let them take the car.
After arguing for a few minutes, I said fine, let me pay this up and I'll go get the car from whereever he's taking it to. But then she told me that since he had the chain on it, I had to pay $700 more. I couldn't do it, so we never got the car back. Turns out that if the repo man doesn't get the car, he doesn't get paid. All he has to do is be attached to the vehicle to make it his, and once it's his, the finance company owes him for the recovery, and then you owe the finance company.
But, Americredit does NOTHING by the book. There was no Cure letter, no repo letter, no auction letter, and no sale letter. Everntually, six months later came the def letter, but that was the only thing we got.
