Full Version: Help selling my car?
CreditBoards > Financing > Automotive Financing

I know this isn't exactly "car financing", but I'm not sure how to go about selling my car by myself, and what all needs to be done legally.. I would love some advice...

Here's the basics...

2000 Audi TT, 93.000 mi.. I owe $14,300.

I'd like to get $11,500 for the car.. That would obviously leave $2,800 negative equity, which I plan on balance xfering to a 0% credit card. These are the steps I imagine taking place, but please correct me if i'm wrong.

Find a buyer. Request payment in Cashiers Check made to Audi Financial Services.

Take check, give buyer the car. Balance xfer 2,800 to my credit card and mail Audi Financial Services the cashiers check.

Get title in the mail from Audi. Go to DMV and have title transferred to buyer. Mail buyer new, updated title.

Is that about right?

sounds about right to me.

I would make the buyer make his check out to you. That way you can combine that check, and your BT into the final amount you owe Audi. If you call Audi before you write up that final check, they can tell you the payoff amount valid for a week or so. You can also get a MO or cashier's check yourself once they tell you the exact final payoff amount.
