Is the Costco price really a large difference from a price you can negotiate on your own?

You can get as good a price all on your own.

Remarkable feat of advertising though, I must admit.

I think Cosco is going to be the way to go for me, I typically buckle with negotiations--hence my earlier post about already formulating my plan!
